Chief talks incident stats

YEAGERTOWN–September incidents in Burnham and Brown Township increased slightly from September of last year, according to Mifflin County Regional Police Chief Scott Mauery.

During the MCRPD Board of Directors’ monthly meeting on Thursday night, Mauery stated that 42 incidents were reported in both Burnham and Brown Township last month, an increase from the 35 and 36 incidents reported in September 2017. Additionally, 33 criminal arrests were made, nearly double the amount of arrests made last year.

“I think its just cases that were finally coming to fruition and were solved,” Mauery noted.

The chief also reported that 76 percent of Part I offenses were cleared last month as well as 64 percent of Part II offenses.

In other business, the board discussed the recent completion of civil service testing for the department. The second phase of testing included oral interviews and physical agility evaluation. According to Mauery, of the three candidates that took part in testing, only one reached completion successfully. Upon further evalution and approval, the candidate will be recommended for hire within the coming months.
