Local man pleads guilty to 7 counts
34-year-old awaits Sexual Offender Board evaluation
MIFFLINTOWN — Michael Scott Kline, 34, of Watsontown, pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of statutory sexual assault, three counts corruption of minors and one count aggravated indecent assault.
According to court documents, the mother of a 16-year-old victim reported to police on Feb. 13, that Kline had been having sex and using drugs with the victim between Thanksgiving 2017 and the first week of January 2018. The victim reported meeting with Kline two to three times each week, sometimes at a neighbor’s barn in Susquehanna Township, sometimes at the Sunoco station on state Route 104, where Kline would, at times, buy the victim cigarettes.
Documents further state that after meeting, the victim reported they would go to Kline’s residence where they would take Benzodiazepine pills and smoke marijuana. The victim also reported multiple sexual encounters with Kline. At least two encounters the victim recalled being unwilling to participate, the most recent one reportedly in December 2017, during which the victim told Kline “no” twice.
The Juniata County District Attorney reached a plea agreement with Kline and his attorney, Public Defender Nancy Schrum, that could include a minimum of three-and-a-half to a maximum of seven years incarceration followed by five years probation. Judge Kenneth Mummah ordered a pre-sentence investigation and sexual offender assessment board evaluation and scheduled sentencing for Dec. 4.
