Farm Bureau holds meeting

Jami Glick named Outstanding Woman in Agriculture

MILROY–Jami Glick was named the District 10 Outstanding Woman in Agriculture during the Mifflin County Farm Bureau’s annual meeting on Thursday night at the Milroy Presbyterian Church.

According to Tim Goss, Glick received the nomination due to her extensive background in the dairy industry as well as her service to the community. Glick has served in multiple committees dedicated to expanding agriculture education and awareness and she has also extended outreach to those in need throughout the county by volunteering her time both on and off the farm. After receiving the district award, her name was forwarded to the state level for consideration for the 2018 state title.

“Little did I know, 30 plus years ago when I married Mr. Glick, that I would become a farm wife that would get involved in all of this,” Glick said. “It’s been a good journey.”

The meeting also featured a presentation from the President of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Rick Ebert, who spoke about the importance of being a farm bureau member and getting involved in the community. He mentioned that the only way to get more members and expand the bureau’s mission was to get involved and provide a voice for agriculture in the region.

“Getting out there in the farm bureau community opened my eyes to all of the opportunities that are out there,” Ebert said.

He later went on to explain the bureau’s role in government and the impact that their advocacy can have in state agricultural legislature.

“We’ve worked really hard over the years to get reform with our legislators and our elected officials,” Ebert said. “We have a lot of credibility among those people because they know that when we go into their offices, we talk about what’s affecting our lives at home on the farm.”

Later in the meeting, the bureau:

¯Approved the minutes from the 2017 annual meeting.

¯Received nominations for board members.

¯Discussed and approved 2018 policy resolutions.

¯Reviewed bylaw changes.

¯Discussed reports from the president, state board, women’s committee and regional organization director.
