Area man faces charges of rape, strangulation

Lewistown man arraigned on 13 counts in Perry County

MARYSVILLE — A 37-year-old man was charged late Thursday night with felony counts of rape, sexual assault, strangulation and aggravated indecent assault after reportedly forcefully having a sexual encounter with another person without that person’s consent, striking the accuser and applying pressure with his hands to the accuser’s neck, court documents indicate.

In October 2017, Daniel E. Landrum, of Lewistown, sexually assaulted the accuser, slapped and struck the accuser multiple times during the sexual assault and put both of his hands around the accuser’s throat, making it difficult for the accuser to breathe, according to court documents. Police reported the accuser advised them of this incident after reporting a second incident of violence by Landrum, court documents indicate. A sexual assault forensic examination was conducted on the accuser which resulted in physical evidence corroborating the accuser’s complaint.

Landrum was arraigned on a total of 13 criminal counts, by Magisterial District Judge Michael Schechterly, who set bail at $75,000, unsecured. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14.
