Ronald Lee Sheetz Sr.

Ronald Lee Sheetz Sr., 77, of Yeagertown, passed away at Fox Chase Hospital in Philadelphia on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018.

Born Feb. 12, 1941, in Burnham, he was the son of the late John Shaffer Sheetz and Ethel Margaret (Wagner) Sheetz. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy (Sheetz) Stitt, in 1985, and his brother, Jack Sheetz, in 2017.

Surviving at home is his wife of 55 years, Linda (Snyder) Sheetz; four children, Rhonda (Sheetz) Williams, of Yeagertown, Kathy (Sheetz) Fultz and husband, Justin, of Yeagertown, Ronald Lee Sheetz Jr., of Lewistown, and Ryan Layton Sheetz and wife, Holly, of Vira. Ronnie also had seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Ron was a Methodist by faith and a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church.

He was employed by Standard Steel in the wheel mill for 33 years, retiring in 1998. In his early years, he worked at Fisher Electronics, where he met his adoring wife, Linda.

In his younger years, Ron played the drums in several bands, including The Cyclones and The Caravans. He played with a group of residents in the retirement village of Cloverleaf in Brooksville, Fla. He also enjoyed playing Suzuki Q Chord Guitar at several nursing homes and assisted living facilities. He won a prize for his instrumental playing in a parade in Cloverleaf.

Ron cherished his time camping along the Juniata River with his family and spending the winters at his home in Florida with his wife. He loved fishing, hunting and photography of wildlife and plants. He enjoyed planting flowers, tomato plants and feeding the hummingbirds. He spoke often of his bird dog, Spot, whom he trained himself.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at the funeral home, with Pastor Rachel Horst officiating.

Interment will take place at Birch Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Ron’s name may be made to the Astrazeneca Hope Lodge, 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham, PA 19012.
