Mount Union woman charged with forgery

LEWISTOWN–Britney L. Hostrander, of Mount Union, was charged with six criminal counts Wednesday, including two counts forgery, after fraudulently signing checks belonging to one of her tenants , according to court documents.

Hostrander, 22, reportedly issued two checks from the accuser’s bank account in February, totaling nearly $200, according to court documents. The accuser told police the checks were used to purchase goods/services from two locations on February 20 and that the accuser did not patronize either location on that date. Surveillance at one of the locations captured Hostrander passing one of the checks to an employee of the establishment, according to court documents. The accuser advised police Hostrander did not have permission to withdraw funds from the checking account in question and reportedly said the accuser’s signature on both checks had been forged.

Hostrander was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jack Miller and committed to Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post the $30,000 bail set. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 8.
