Lewistown man waives his arraignment

HUNTINGDON — Bobby Joe Carr, 22, of Lewistown, waived his preliminary arraignment on Aug. 1 and his formal arraignment was moved to an unspecified date, according to court documents.

Carr was charged in July with eight criminal counts, including fleeing/attempting to elude police, driving under the influence, driving without a license and other summary offenses, after he reportedly led state police on a high-speed chase on U.S. 522 in Huntingdon County, south of Mount Union, according to court documents.

On July 26, Carr was driving south on U.S. 522 and turned on his high beams while passing a Pennsylvania State Police trooper who was on patrol, according to court documents. When the trooper attempted to stop Carr’s vehicle, Carr reportedly drove away at a high rate of speed, causing police to pursue Carr in excess of 90 miles per hour, according to court document.

Once the trooper activated his vehicle’s emergency lights, Carr drove faster — in excess of 100 mph, according to court documents. Police witnessed Carr emerge from the travel lane several times, including once to overtake a tractor-trailer. Eventually, Carr slowed to a stop approximately five miles south of Mount Union in Cromwell Township. Carr reportedly told police the gas pedal was stuck during the pursuit.

Carr also reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. Police used field sobriety tests to conclude Carr was intoxicated and a blood draw was conducted at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, according to court documents.

Carr’s bail was also modified from monetary to unsecured on Aug. 1, according to court documents. Carr is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 6 and is being represented by Huntingdon County Public Defender Fred Gutshall.
