¯Middleburg Kiwanis 5K run — 9 a.m., Aug. 11, Middleburg Firemen’s Field. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Event sponsored by the Middleburg Area Kiwanis Club and the Susquehanna Ridge Runners Club. Male and female and age divisions. Benefits the Seven Bridges District Scout Units and many Middleburg area community youth groups. Prizes for first, second and third place. ¯Tuscarora Academy fundraiser — 7-10 p.m., Aug. 18, Juniata Valley Winery. Event to include entertainment by Faces 4 Radio. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased prior to the event at the Juniata County Library, the Juniata County Historical Society Archives office from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesdays; or 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesdays; or by calling (717) 497-0915 or (717) 734-0057. Tickets will also be available at the door. Food trucks will be on site.

¯Adoption benefit dinner–5-7:30 p.m., Big Valley Brethren in Christ, 81 Wagner St., Belleville. Donation based spaghetti dinner with homemade meatballs, salad, desserts and dinner rolls will be provided. Takeout will be available. Proceeds to benefit the adoption costs for Baby Aumiller. Saturday, Aug. 4

¯Clothing and shoe donations — 9 a.m.-noon, Evangel Baptist Church, 375 W. Fifth St., Lewistown. A volunteer will be there to assist.

¯Brick Saturday — 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Mifflin County Library, Lewistown, and Kish Branch Library, Belleville. Kids of all ages can come and play with Legos provided by the library.

¯Chinese auction — doors open at 10 a.m., Grace Covenant Church, Middleburg. Sales end at 12:45 p.m., drawing at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $2 for one sheet of 25 or $5 for three sheets. Need not be present to win. Food, drinks and baked goods and chicken barbecue available. Benefits the Midd-West High School bowling team.

¯Back to School event — 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 604 Electric Avenue, Lewistown. Bookbags with supplies will be given to all school-age children for free. Gently used clothing will be available for free. Free hot dogs and ice cream will be available for anyone who attends. There will be door prizes.

¯Chicken barbecue — ready at 11 a.m., West Granville Fire Co., Strodes Mills. Cost is $5 a half.

¯Keystone State Muscle Cars weekly cruise in — 5-8:30 p.m., Milroy exit off of Route 322, across from Tom’s Service Plaza. All events are free and all cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. are welcome.

¯Coffee with friends — 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Lack Tuscarora EMS, East Waterford. For seniors; no cost. There will be crafts, exercise, speakers and Bible study, with light lunch provided.

¯TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) — weigh-ins are from 6-6:45 p.m., meeting from 7-7:30 p.m., Yeagertown United Methodist Church, 7 N. Mann Ave., Yeagertown.

¯BonTon Golden Oldies meeting — 6 p.m., Burnham OIP.

¯Free Elder Care Planning Workshop — 6:30 p.m., McCoysville Presbyterian Church, near the corner of McKinley Road and McCoysville Road. Lead by Elder Law Attorney Ken Potter, enjoy some refreshments as you learn about methods of paying for long-term care (in-home, assisted living, nursing home) while preserving assets for you or for your loved ones. We will discuss tax, Medicaid and other implications of asset transfers. We will compare Long Term Care insurance to Medicare and Medicaid. We will also look at important planning tools like living wills, powers of attorney, wills and trusts. Those who attend the workshop may also schedule a free personalized consultation with Potter. ¯National Night Out — 5:30 p.m., Rec Park, Lewistown. Held by the Borough of Lewistown’s Southside Neighborhood Block Watch Group in conjunction with the Lewistown Police Department.
