Work continues on Charles St.

Bridge projected to be completed by September

LEWISTOWN–Construction on the Charles St. bridge exit is expected to reach completion by Sept. 4, according to project head, Mike Reeder.

The construction originally began earlier this summer as part of a bridge preservation project. According to Reeder, the goal of the project is to expand the life expectancy of the bridges by adding more support to the structures. The Charles St. bridge is the last of three within the project to be completed.

Reeder also said that crews have finished setting the beams for the bridge, but other aspects, such as paving, are still a work in progress. Reeder mentioned that work was previously delayed due to an issue with the beams as well as inclement weather, especially throughout the past week.

“Fingers crossed that [the bridge] will be completed by the start of the school year, and if not, shortly thereafter,” said Lewistown Borough Manager and Secretary Scott Welham.

As construction around the bridge exit continues, Mifflin County School District Superintendent said that the district is preparing for busing delays for the first few weeks of school year, which will begin on Aug. 23.
