Stapleton burglary case proceeds to trial

HUNTINGDON — Mark C. Stapleton, 47, of Mount Union, is scheduled for jury selection in November after appearing before Judge George Zanic on Thursday in the Huntingdon County Court of Common Pleas.

Stapleton faces trial on three criminal counts, including burglary.

According to a criminal complaint filed in May, Stapleton unlawfully entered the home of a Mount Union resident while intoxicated and threatened the resident with bodily harm.

The alleged victim reported to police that Stapleton damaged a screen door, disturbed items in the residence and left several personal items on the living room coffee table. Officers on scene observed Stapleton on the alleged victim’s porch and noted that Stapleton’s speech was slurred and officer could smell alcohol on his breath. Stapleton became argumentative and combative throughout the course of his interview with police, according to court documents.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled in September.

Stapleton remains in custody at the Huntingdon County Correctional Facility, according to court documents.
