Fire burns bedroom

Sentinel photo by MEREDITH PEACHEY
A Friday fire in a Back Maitland Road residence, was contained to an upstairs bedroom, according to Lt. Zach Lingle with Decatur Fire Company. Lingle said the remaining upstairs room doors were all shut, which prevented the spread of the fire. Lingle speculated a faulty air conditioner was to blame and reported that four cats were killed in the fire. In addition to Decatur, East Derry, United, City Hook & Ladder, Brooklyn, Junction, Reedsville and Highland Park fire companies assisted on scene, as did Fame EMS. The Red Cross plans to assist the family affected by the fire.
