Food safety certification training course planned

LEWISTOWN — Penn State Cooperative Extension is offering a ServSafe Food Safety Certification Training course for establishments that do not meet the certification requirements, or if the current certification is about to expire.

The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 16, and from 9 a.m. to noon, with the certification exam at 1 p.m., on July 23. The program will be held at the Penn State Extension, Mifflin County Office, 152 E. Market St., Suite 100, Lewistown. The cost for the two-day certification course is $185.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requires the person in charge in a food service operation to hold a nationally recognized food protection certificate. Establishments not meeting this requirement have 90 days after their date of inspection to comply.

Sharon McDonald, extension educator for Penn State Extension, will be the instructor. Registration deadline is July 9, and seating is limited. To register online visit https://extension.psu.edu/servsafe or call (877) 345-0691. For more information, contact McDonald at (814) 865-6953.
