Richfield Dutch Days
50th anniversary coincides with Richfield’s bicentennial
RICHFIELD –This year is the 50th anniversary of Richfield Dutch Days, and Richfield’s Bicentennial as well. Festivities will take place from July 17 to 20.
The celebration will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on July 15, with a community picnic, followed by an outdoor church service at 7 p.m. in the park. In case of inclement weather, the service will be in Richfield Life Ministries Church.
Dutch Days highlights include:
≤ July 19 (rain date, July 20), Richfield Bicentennial Fireworks at 10 p.m.;
≤ Dutch Days Country Store; Outdoor Cafe;
≤ Wristbands available each night, ride from 6 to 11 p.m.;
≤ July 21, parade at 4 p.m., theme is “200 Years in the Making, A Bicentennial Celebration;”
≤ July 21, 10 p.m., 2017 Name Quilt auction;
≤ Antique hit and miss engines.
2017 Name Quilt
The theme of the 2017 Dutch Days Quilt is “Bears.” It is on display at the Richfield bank and will be featured in the Fancy House at Dutch Days.
The quilt will be sold at 10 p.m. on July 21, by Robert Leitzel, auctioneer.
The quilt features a center woodland scene with bears, a stream and a log cabin drawn by Jim Sheaffer and embroidered by Ruthann Benner. The center patch is bordered with green fabric and the outer borders are pieced in a bear paw patch.
Name script was by Michele Ebright. The names were embroidered by Virginia Hornberger, Vicki Ray, Shirley Nace, Trudy Sheerer, Carolyn Strawser and Bonnie Sheaffer. Quilting and binding was by Grace Lauver, Janice Leitzel, Pat Chubb and Lois Heath.
The quilt includes 567 names and the dimensions are 98 x108 inches. The quilt will also have two matching pillows sold along with it.
