Man faces 2 counts of aggravated assault

LEWISTOWN — Cowgee Mangrum, 36, of Lewistown, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault.

Upon Mangrum entering his plea, Stephen Snook, Mangrum’s attorney, remarked, “we believe, ultimately, (that) we’ll be able to resolve the case,” indicating communications between his office and the state. No jury selection or trial date was scheduled.

According to court documents, Mangrum threatened Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital staff, in March, with a pair of surgical scissors. Police said three registered nurses reported that Mangrum motioned the scissors in a stabbing and swiping manor, before turning the scissors on himself.

When police interviewed Mangrum, he allegedly confessed to the behavior and stated he did so because he was “afraid if he went to sleep he was going to die.”
