Lucas: Low-level flooding expected Friday, Saturday

LEWISTOWN — With the Juniata Valley expected to receive between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain through noon Saturday, coupled with already-saturated ground and already higher-than-normal river levels, some minor flooding is expected Friday and Saturday, particularly along the Juniata River, according to Phil Lucas, Director of the Mifflin County Office of Public Safety.

At Lewistown, the Juniata River level is expected to be approximately 14.7 feet Saturday morning, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That is below the action stage of 18 feet and the flood stage of 23 feet.

There is a greater than 50 percent chance of rain each day through Saturday with the high temperatures each day but Thursday predicted to be in the 60s, according to AccuWeather. Thursday’s forecasted high is 71 degrees in Lewistown.
