Directors approve change order

MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata County School District’s Board of Directors Thursday night approved a number of actions at its meeting, including a change order in the amount of $20,318.

The change order covers the cost of furnishing and installing a four-inch PVC conduit encased in concrete from the building to a new pole location at Monroe Elementary School.

According to Superintendent Keith Yarger, funds for such change orders are built into the budget.

The board also approved the following:

¯An extension of the period of use for Mountain View Elementary School for a preschool program operated by Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 until July.

Board member Joseph Shearer voted against the change order.

¯A contract with Sports Floors Inc. to clean, abrade and recoat the Juniata High School gymnasium floor at a cost of $6,052 and the East Juniata High School gymnasium floor at a cost of $6,208.

¯An agreement with Christian Retreat Center to pay $3,500 annually for five years and then $4,500 for five consecutive years with a commitment to continue the Teens in Missionary Service program for each of those years in lieu of paying taxes.

¯Resignation of Rhonda Miller, a part-time employee at Tuscarora Junior High School, effective March 25.

¯Termination of employment for Bonita Sheets, effective April 3.

¯Hire of Robin Graham as Tuscarora High School part-time custodian at an hourly rate of $14.25, effective April 23 to replace Rhonda Miller.

¯Hire of Linsey Landis as school crossing guard at an hourly rate of $18 per hour.

¯Jennifer Winey to attend a local work group meeting in Oakland Mills on March 28.

¯The retirement of Michael Goss, a Lack-Tuscarora Elementary School teacher. Goss will retire at the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year.

¯The retirement of Phillip Lupolt, a math teacher at Tuscarora Junior High School. Lupolt will retire at the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year.

¯The addition of two physical education teaching positions to the elementary staff for the 2018-19 school year.

Board member Joseph Shearer voted against adding the positions.

¯The employment of Cortni Baker as a translator/interpreter at an hourly rate of $15 per hour.

¯The following extracurricular positions for the 2018-19 school year: Mike Ryan as boys soccer coach at East Juniata High School with a $2,490 stipend and Tyler Inch as boys soccer assistant coach at East Juniata High School with a $1,790 stipend.
