Mifflin man pleads guilty

Diaz-Rodriguez awaits sentencing

MIFFLINTOWN–Edwin Diaz-Rodriguez, 57, of Mifflin, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to corruption of minors and open lewdness, after withdrawing his motion to quash.

Diaz-Rodriguez was charged in July 2017 with six criminal counts, including corruption of minors, indecent exposure and open lewdness. In an affidavit from July 2017, Trooper Kyle Milliron reported Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Lewistown “received a call from a complainant, stating there was a male outside the school house apartment in Mifflin watching girls in a pool and he was touching himself.” Milliron reported attempting to locate Diaz-Rodriguez in his apartment, knocking on his door “several times with no answer.” Milliron interviewed a juvenile female “who related that she was in her bedroom and [Diaz-Rodriguez] was grabbing and pulling his [genitals] out of is pants” and that he “told her to pull her pants down several times when she was outside swimming.”

Diaz-Rodriguez was arrested approximately 28 hours later, after the original complainant reported seeing Diaz-Rodriguez at the Grid Iron Pub in Mifflintown. Milliron reported “a criminal history of [Diaz-Rodriguez] was ran, indicating prior sex crimes.” Diaz-Rodriguez was taken into custody at the Mifflin County Correction Facility, held on $75,000 bail.

The plea was entered in the judges’ chambers Tuesday, before President Judge Kathy Morrow, as Juniata County residents were awaiting jury selection to begin in the courtroom. According to District Attorney Cory Snook, Morrow “ordered a pre-sentence investigation report and a Sexual Offenders’ Assessment Board evaluation.” Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for June 5.
