Junkin announces candidacy for 82nd Legislative District

Franklin County native seeks to succeed Harris

James S. Junkin

A Franklin County native has announced that he is seeking the Republican nomination for state representative in the 82nd Legislative District for May’s primary election.

James S. “Jim” Junkin made his announcement after C. Adam Harris, a Republican who currently holds the seat, announced he will not seek re-election.

Junkin is heavily involved with his local community, having served as board president for the Fannett-Metal School District, vice chair of the Franklin County Area Development Corporation, and past president of the Franklin County Farm Bureau where he currently serves on the Legislative Committee.

Junkin currently serves on the Board of Directors for the First Community Bank of Mercersburg and has previously served on the board for the Franklin Learning Center. He is also a life member of the Metal Township Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Co.

A graduate of Fannett-Metal High School, Junkin continued his education at the Auto & Diesel College in Nashville, Tennessee. He left a successful career in the transportation industry to return to the family farm and has been actively farming since 1997, now owning and operating Junk-Inn Farms LLC with his son, Ben.

“Being a farmer and small business owner myself, I understand many of the challenges the constituents of the 82nd District face,” Junkin said in a press release. “I look forward to addressing these issues and serving the residents of Juniata, Mifflin and Franklin counties.”

Junkin, 55, lives in Willow Hill with his wife of 35 years, Judith. He has three grown children — Megan, Alan, and Ben.

The 82nd Legislative District is comprised of all of Juniata County, most of Mifflin County and parts of Franklin County.
