Beavertown man found dead at the scene

One man was found dead following a fatal, one vehicle crash that occurred on Feb. 11 on Route 522 in West Beaver Township, Snyder County.

According to a report from Pennsylvania State Police Selinsgrove, Thomas Shartzer, 65, of Beavertown was found deceased by fire and EMS services upon their arrival at the scene.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:18 p.m. on Feb. 11, as Shartzer was traveling north in a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado. Shartzer reportedly lost control after attempting to pass another vehicle and exited the right side of the roadway. Shartzer’s vehicle struck four fence posts and a telephone pole before rotating counter-clockwise and traveling through a field where it came to final rest, facing north.

Shartzer was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and his vehicle sustained disabling damage. State police were assisted on the scene by Bannerville EMS, Beaver Springs Fire and EMS, McClure Fire Department, the Snyder County coroner and Mount Pleasant Mills Auto Wreckers.

Investigation into the crash will remain open pending the receipt of the Snyder County Coroner’s report.
