Vehicle hits building, trees in crash

Police: Alcohol, speed factors

LEWISTOWN — A Lewistown man was uninjured after a vehicle crash Saturday morning.

At 7:51 a.m., Mifflin County Regional Police Department officers were called to the rear of Berube’s Crystal Clearwater for a report of a vehicle over an embankment, according to a press release from the police department.

Officers arrived at 819 Electric Avenue and found a 2008 Kia Optima, which was unoccupied. Through investigation it was determined that the vehicle was traveling south on South Logan Boulevard onto Electric Avenue. According to the news release, the vehicle failed to negotiate the turn and continued straight, traveling 229 feet and between two buildings. The vehicle hit the southeast corner of the water business building, causing damage, and then went another 12 feet hitting several trees. According to the news release, the vehicle went another 50 feet down an embankment prior to coming to a stop.

Devin Ammerman, 20, of Lewistown, was identified as the driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene without

notifying police following the crash.

Police determined that alcohol and speed were factors contributing to the crash. Charges against Ammerman are pending.
