Slice to meat you

New deli offers fresh meat, cheeses and prepared foods

LEWISTOWN — No matter how you slice it, the freshest deli meats and cheeses and made-to-order foods are available at Lewistown’s newest deli, Sliced.

Located along Electric Avenue, the deli owners, Candy and Ryan Snyder, feature John F. Martin products, salads, subs, sandwiches, paninis, soups and limited bakery items of cookies and cupcakes. The deli also offers custom orders for cakes and cupcakes and request one week or more notice for these specialty items. The deli also offers some catering and fundraising options too. As the business grows, Candy said she would like to expand the bakery aspect of the business.

As the owners of the Twisted Egg Roll food truck and traveling to area fairs and festivals for two years, the Snyders have developed a unique line of flavor combinations and have now incorporated those signature flavors into the paninis. Since opening in October, Candy said the paninis have been very popular as well as the ‘Wendy dressing,’ the house salad dressing.

“It’s my sister-in-law’s recipe,” Candy said. “I needed a signature dressing and she created it. I give her all the credit for it.”

Candy, who has 20 years in the food service industry and was in the culinary arts program at Harrisburg Area Community College, says she is very creative herself, culinary wise, and really enjoys cooking.

“I’ve worked in food service forever,” Candy said. “Long enough to know what I’d like us to have instead of working for someone. I can put my twist on everything.”

Her husband gladly gives his opinion on his wife’s creations.

“I’m the taste tester,” Ryan said happily.

The couple, whose children are now grown, were looking for a change and would often stop by the former Pop’s Deli location to purchase deli meat for their food truck. When Pop’s owners announced their retirement in May, the former owners suggested the Snyders purchase the business.

“They (Pop’s) built a great following and many are coming back to support us,” Candy said. “They are excited it’s open again.”

The Snyders are continuing Pop’s friendly service and offering deli meats and cheeses at very competitive prices.

“We have a personalized service and everything is made fresh,” Candy said.

“Easy in and easy out,” Ryan explained about the service.

Many of Snyders’ food truck fans are also regular customers of the deli now too.

“It’s growing everyday,” Candy said.

Located at 701 Electric Ave., Lewistown, the deli is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
