The Nutcracker

MIFFLINTOWN — There’s no need to travel out of the area for The Nutcracker ballet this year.

The holiday classic will be presented at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2, at Juniata High School by the Margaret McCann School of Dance.

Perhaps the most popular ballet in Western countries, The Nutcracker is the story of a young girl’s magical journey on Christmas Eve. This year’s performance includes special guests, Molly Kinney, narrating the story, and Jerry Leach, as Drosselmeyer.

“I am so surprised at how many people have not seen this ballet before,” McCann said. “We are so proud to be offering it to the community. We have tried to personalize the ballet for our students, but still remain true to the spirit of the traditional. For example, our Russian dancers are matryoshka — nesting dolls. We have a surprise in our Chinese dance, also.”

Tickets are $8.50 each and all seats are reserved. Tickets may be purchased by calling the dance studio at (717) 436-9806. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
