Students honored during meeting
Graduates receive Nestler College Scholarships
MIFFLINTOWN – Two recent high school graduates were honored Tuesday by the Juniata County Commissioners for being named the 2017 Nestler College Scholarship recipients.
The commissioners commended Laurel Amey, a 2017 graduate of East Juniata High School; and Brenna Strawser, a 2017 graduate of Juniata High School for winning the academic scholarships, which were established years ago by the Nestler family and is overseen by the Juniata Valley Bank.
Amey said she plans to attend Penn State-Harrisburg in the fall majoring in English and secondary education. “I hope to teach some day,” she commented.
Strawser said she plans to attend Lebanon Valley College and major in physical therapy.
In other business Tuesday, the commissioners:
¯ Ratified a resolution authorizing Juniata Valley and Behavioral Development Services to enter into sublease agreements with Children’s Behavioral Health Inc. and Peerstar Advocacy for rental pace.
¯ Approved the “Federal Fiscal Year 2016 Professional and Administrative Services Agreement” between Juniata County and Seda-COG as submitted by Matthew Updegrove, Seda-COG program coordinator.
¯ Approved payment of bills in the amount of $68,622.62.
