Sievers running for council seat

Goal is to be independent voice for area residents

LEWISTOWN — Mark S. Sievers has announced his bid for Lewistown Borough Council. Sievers was born and raised in Mifflin County and is a 1979 Lewistown Area High School graduate.

Sievers said he received his bachelor’s in accounting from St. Francis University. He is employed as controller at Lee Industries Inc.; a multi-million dollar, privately held manufacturing company. He has been with the company for more than 30 years.

“I feel my financial experience in preparing and interpreting monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, establishing annual budgets, being responsible for all banking and finance activities, reviewing all financial contracts with top Fortune 500 companies, financing agreements and insurance policies, developing internal control policies, etc., would be invaluable as a member of the borough council,” he said in a press release.

Siever said his objective, as a borough council member, is to be an independent voice for the taxpayers and residents of Lewistown by identifying and addressing the issues and concerns at hand, eliminating waste and using his financial experience to help make the borough a better place to live.

“There are important issues that need to be addressed forthrightly and urgently, such as our shrinking tax base, declining property values and increased crime,” Sievers said. “My goal will be to explore all available grants and taking the specific actions needed to achieve those grants, developing incentives to bring businesses to our area, balancing the budget and reducing needless spending. I’m not going to make you a bunch of promises, without first evaluating and reviewing the data. I would like to see Lewistown become a more inclusive community, uniting homeowners, renters and businesses.”

Sievers said Lewistown has faced its share of challenges, but it is a community with caring individuals and if everyone can work together, it is a community that has a strong future.
