LEWISTOWN — The Huskies at Lewistown Elementary School deserve a treat.

On Friday afternoon, LES students left class early and headed to the gymnasium, where they participated in a schoolwide assembly. The celebration, part of Mifflin County School District’s “Pawsitive” Behavior Initiative, was a reward for students’ positive actions.

The program serves as an avenue through which teachers and administrators can recognize and encourage students who demonstrate good behavior in four areas: ready, respectful, responsible and safe.

Friday’s celebration featured a talent show. Teachers from each grade level performed songs, dances and skits on the stage at the front of the room. After each performance, four student judges raised a score card in the air to rate their teachers.

Many of the performances were interactive. Students motioned along with party songs including “Cotton Eye Joe,” “Macarena” and “Thriller.” They laughed along with a group of “synchronized swimmers” who performed aquatic moves behind a water scene, and the entire school joined in a dance to the “Milkshake” song, from Youtube’s GoNoodle.

The celebration lasted until the end of the school day.
