Sheriff says he will not seek re-election

Shade served Mifflin County for 21 years, eight as sheriff

LEWISTOWN — Sheriff Christopher Shade has announced he will not seek a third term as Mifflin County Sheriff. Shade has spent the past 21 years in service to Mifflin County, first when hired as a corrections officer in 1996, and then as a deputy sheriff in 2002. Shade was elected as sheriff in 2009.

During his tenure as sheriff, Shade says he has implemented changes to the office, including modernizing how the office’s work is tracked and making the process more user friendly and streamlined. Training completed by the sheriff’s deputies has been increased as well.

“Trainings implemented mirrored real life. My biggest concern was the safety of the deputies that serve Mifflin County. I wanted to ensure that the deputies were equipped to handle any scenario they may find themselves in,” Shade said in a press release.

Shade said he looks forward to exploring new opportunities and spending time with his family.

“It has been my privilege to serve the citizens of Mifflin County for the past eight years. I am truly grateful for that,” he said.
