Reynolds asks for approval

OK on GESA would allow consolidation to move forward

MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata County School District is on schedule to move forward with consolidation of its elementary schools, pending board approval.

During a workshop meeting held Wednesday evening at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School, Reynolds Building Solutions presented the board with a design development budget update.

Rick Evans, of Reynolds, said the budget is now being broken into separate contracts. Some costs are still estimates, though they are being refined ahead of the bidding process. However, a final figure of $11,237,366 in guaranteed energy savings is anticipated as a result of the consolidation.

Board approval of the savings agreement next week would lock in that number and ensure no change orders for that part of the project.

Jeff Harris, also of Reynolds, said the GESA will allow installation of well fields ahead of other site work and rough grading and ground removal at the Monroe site.

With the board’s OK, Reynolds will then be able to prepare an Act 34 booklet, which is a required part of the public hearing process.

As of Wednesday, the cost of consolidation into Monroe and Fermanagh-Mifflintown elementary schools, along with renovation of both sites to make that possible, would total approximately $44,885,405. With energy and operational cost savings, PlanCon reimbursement, administrative cost savings and grant funding, net project total is estimated at $979,503.

The next meeting of the Juniata County School District Board of Directors is scheduled to be held at 8 p.m. Jan. 19 at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School.
