TCF to hold candlelighting

MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata Valley Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will be holding a candle lighting to honor the memories of all children, regardless of age, who have died.

The local event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.11, in the lower level of the Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, 611 S. Main St., Lewistown.

It will feature candle lighting, special music, poems and reading of the children’s names. Extended families and friends are encouraged to attend together. Those attending are invited to bring a framed picture of their child to place on the memory table. Attendees can also write the name of the child they are

remembering.

Each child’s name is spoken and at that time, family and friends of that child are able to light a candle. They may also hang an ornament with their child’s name on a small tree or bring a favorite snack of their child’s to share with others. Light refreshments will follow the program.

This event is part of the 20th annual Worldwide Candle Lighting of TCF.

Candles are lit at 7 p.m. for an hour in each time zone so there is a 24 hour wave of light as it happens around the world. As candles burn down in one time zone, they are lit in the next.

Families are encouraged to light candles at home if they are unable to attend a program. This remembrance program gives bereaved families the opportunity to remember their children so that their lights may always shine.

TCF’s national website, www.compassionatefriends.org, will have a Remembrance Book open for posts, which will receive thousands of tributes from family members and other caring individuals.
