‘Our Town’ to air tonight

Public television series highlights towns throughout Pennsylvania

LEWISTOWN — If you are looking for something to watch on television tonight, how about tuning in at 8 p.m. to WPSU for its latest edition of “Our Town,” which can also be viewed online at wpsu.org/live.

Earlier this year, WPSU staffers interviewed several people in Lewistown for the Our Town series, which highlights various communities throughout the commonwealth.

Tonight, it’s Lewistown’s turn to air.

This season, the Our Town team also visited Johnsonburg, Cresson and Penns Valley.

“‘Our Town: Lewistown’ is the 90th program in our 20-year-old Our Town series,” Producer Betsy Hutton said.

She said the program highlights stories including Goose Day, canals, railroads, Juniata Terrace, service organizations, fine arts and a 1920s grand movie theatre.

“The process of making ‘Our Town: Lewistown’ was a joy for WPSU, partially because several members of our staff had stories of their own to tell about both growing up and living in the Lewistown area now,” Hutton said. “Overall the stories from middle schoolers to retirees reflect the warmth and generosity of the community. We couldn’t be happier with the portrait they painted of their own town. We hope others in the community will enjoy hearing more about the place where they live.”

Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau Acting Director Rhonda Moore said she is thrilled about the program.

“I am very excited for others to see exactly what we as residents already know, that Lewistown is an amazing place to live, work, play and retire,” Moore said. “We are a tight-knit community with many local traditions, beautiful scenery, a rich past and warm, friendly residents.”

Downtown Lewistown Inc. Executive Director Jim Zubler said 25 people in the community were interviewed as part of the program.

“We were very fortunate … it will make you really proud when you see it,” Lewistown Mayor Deb Bargo said.
