Local Veterans Day events

Organizations planning services, parade or other events for Veterans Day are invited to send information to The Sentinel for weekly free publication until the time of the event.

≤ Nov. 5– Military appreciation pre-tailgate program, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Military Museum. The event will include: presentations on various military topics in the auditorium; guided tours of the museum; static displays provided by the 4th Infantry Division; presentations of Vietnam Service pins to Vietnam. After visiting the museum, veterans are encouraged to participate in the Veterans Appreciation Day tailgate at the Bryce Jordan Center on the Penn State campus. The tailgate will begin at 3 p.m. and end prior to the game at Beaver Stadium. The tailgate will feature a buffet by Wal-Mart and entertainment by the 28th Division Band, the USO Troup, and other performers.

¯ Nov. 9 — 8:30 a.m., flag raising at East Juniata High School

¯ Nov. 10 –6:30 p.m., Mifflin County Veterans Day Parade, forming on Elizabeth Street, then marching up South Main Street toward Monument Square, and looping around town on Market and Third streets. First, second and third place prizes will be given for best patriotic themed floats. Registraction deadline is Friday. Applications are available at the Mifflin County Commissioners office on the second floor of the Mifflin County Courthouse or at Fame EMS. ¯ Nov. 11–A special dinner to honor all military veterans and emergency responders in Mifflin County will be held at 5 p.m. at the Lewistown Armory, 28 Armory Lane, Lewistown along U.S. Hwy 522 N. The event is open, free of charge, to all military veterans, law enforcement, fire fighters and first responders. Spouses are also welcome. The dinner will be hosted by VFW Memorial Post 7011, assisted by members of HHC 2/112 Infantry (Stryker) Bn. and VFW Memorial Post 7011 Womens Auxiliary. The event also will feature a number of static displays, including Stryker armored vehicles, weapons, and other military equipment.
