Halloween-themed sip and paint set for Friday

LEWISTOWN – A spooky tree sip and paint is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gallery 3West on Monument Square, Lewistown.

This popular Halloween themed painting was inspired by the spooky creations of movie maker Tim Burton. Cost is $30 per person and includes all painting materials and instruction. Midd-West Relay for Life schedules Fall Fest

BEAVER SPRINGS -The Midd-West Relay for Life Fall Festival will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Beaver Community Fairgrounds in Beaver Springs.

The festival features hayrides, haymaze, campfire, free snacks, cake walk, candy scramble, games and fall activities. Concession and vendor stands will also be available.

Local country star Kenzie McCarter will perform from 4 to 5 pm.

Donna Reynolds will appear with her cowbell performance from 7 to 8 p.m.

Children are welcome to come dressed in costume. The festival includes many free activities for families, and will be held rain or shine. Most activities will be indoors.

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society Midd West Relay For Life.

McVeytown Lions to sell chicken pies

MCVEYTOWN – In addition to sponsoring the Halloween Parade in McVeytown on Oct. 29, the Lions are having a homemade chicken pie dinner at the McVeytown Firehouse along Route 22.

Meals may be eaten in or as take-out at $6 per meal. The sale for the meals will start at 3 p.m. and continue until they are sold out.

There will also be hot dogs, sloppy joes, french fries, baked goods and beverages for sale at the firehouse.

Two open stitching sessions scheduled

LEWISTOWN – Open stitches sessions are scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. each day on Nov. 6 and Dec. 4 at Gallery 3West on Monument Square, Lewistown.

All needle crafters, age 12 and older, are welcome. All skill levels are welcome, but this is not a class. This is a time to relax and work on projects in the company of other crafters.

Holes will be set up inside the library, and balls and clubs will be provided to participants.

Adults only may play from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 4, while the event will be open to people of all ages from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 5.

A buffet-style meal, to be served at 6:30 p.m., will include stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, two vegetables, coleslaw and applesauce, rolls, dessert and a beverage. Entertainment also will be provided.

Cost is $15 each or two for $25. Children 12 and younger eat free.

U.S. Army band to

present free concert

LEWISTOWN -The U.S. Army Field Band and Soldier’s Chorus will present a free concert at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the Mifflin County High School auditorium.

LEWISTOWN – The All County Marching Band Reunion will be held Friday during the Huskies’ homecoming football game.

Quilters Guild to host teacher Erin Underwood

MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata Valley Quilters Guild will hold a trunk show and workshop with visiting teacher Erin Underwood.

“From Then to Now: A Trunk Show of My Quilting Life” is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown. There will be a $10 admission fee for non-members.

The workshop, “Optical Illusion,” is an intermediate level project, set to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the same location. Class fee is $25, which includes the project pattern and a 15-degree ruler. You must supply your own fabrics, thread, sewing and cutting tools. There will be optional companion patterns available for $5 each.

Pink Connection plans 8th annual benefit event

SPRING MILLS – Central PA Pink Connection presents the 8th annual wine tasting event, Unmask a Cure Mardi Gras Masquerade, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, at the Seven Mountains Wine Cellars.

Books and Brushes slated for Saturday

LEWISTOWN – Books and Brushes, sponsored by the Friends of the Mifflin County Library, is set for Saturday.

The exhibit will feature the works of several local artists and craftsmen from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library in Lewistown.

The event is free to the public.

The Friends group were formed several years ago to support the library’s programs, purpose and activities.

To date, nearly $50,000 has been raised and donated to the library.

Indian attack at banquet

MEXICO – The Juniata County Historical Society’s fall dinner program will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Walker Grange, Mexico.

The program will feature author Linda Martin Gilmore, who will speak on the 260th anniversary of the Indian attack on Bigham’s Fort. She will give a glimpse into the lives and hardships of the settlers who were involved and survived the attack.

Copies of her book, “Peril and Perseverance in the Pennsylvania Backcountry 1755-1765: Shearman’s Valley, Tuscarora Valley and the Mouth of the Juniata,” will be offered for sale.

The cost is $15 for the program and family style roast beef dinner. Reservations and payment are due by Oct. 12. Zombie makeup workshop scheduled

LEWISTOWN – A zombie makeup workshop is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Gallery 3West on Monument Square, Lewistown.

Professionally trained makeup artist Jill Harbst-Boulanger will take participants, age 12 and older, through the steps of creating the perfectly gory zombie face. The cost is $25 per person. Firemen to present kid’s program at MC Library

BELLEVILLE – A special program for children will be held Saturday at the Kish Branch of the Mifflin County Library in Belleville.

Firemen from the Belleville Fire Company will arrive at 10 a.m. to teach children how to stay safe in a fire. Children will also have the opportunity to explore a fire truck.

Reeds Gap Fall Fest slated for Saturday

MILROY -The Reeds Gap State Park Fall Fest 2016 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the park at 1405 New Lancaster Valley Road, Milroy.

Activities include: hay rides, face and pumpkin painting, candle making, live owl demonstrations, living history demonstrations, fly tying and fly fishing

demonstrations, food concessions, fresh handmade apple cider, pioneer and traditional skill demonstrations, PA Game Commission Deer Study presentation and the Pennsylvania Amphibian and Reptile Survey display and live animals.

Reservable tent campsites are available at Reeds Gap State Park, and fishing, boating and additional camping is available at nearby Poe Valley and Poe Paddy state parks.
