Search may be ending
MIFFLINTOWN – The search for a new superintendent for the Juniata County School District could end as early as Thursday evening.
An agenda prepared for the school board meeting, set for Thursday, recommends approving the appointment of Keith D. Yarger to the position, effective Monday. The contract for superintendent recommends an annual salary of $110,000 and remains in effect for three years.
Yarger was one of two candidates introduced to the community during a meet-and-greet event held Aug. 7.
During that event, Yarger said he has experience with teaching, school consolidation and proposal writing. He also served previously as superintendent for the Southern Tioga School District which includes multiple high schools, junior high schools and elementary schools.
Yarger said his plan as a prospective superintendent for JCSD has two stages: entry and development. His first goals include talking to students, teachers and area residents to gain a better understanding of the district’s needs. Yarger said, if chosen for the position, he would present what he learned to the board in February.
The JCSD Board of Directors is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School.
