Engineering firm gets go-ahead

LEWISTOWN – During a brief business meeting on Thursday, the Mifflin County Commissioners approved an agreement for services related to a municipal project.

The agreement will retain the services of Uni-Tee Engineers Inc., of State College, for professional engineering services on a sewer sanitation project in Juniata Terrace Borough. Under the agreement, the firm will be paid $26,000.

Heard a quarterly report from Chris Wysocki, administrator of Juniata Valley Behavioral and Developmental Services, during which Wysocki reported the organization’s budget for 2014-15 will be approximately the same as last year. He also reported that in fiscal year 2013-14, 270 individuals in Mifflin County received intellectual development services, 511 individuals received mental health services and 61 children received early intervention services.

Approved purchase of service agreements for use, if needed, by children & youth with Snyder, Union, Mifflin Child Development, of Lewistown; Tuscarora Intermediate Unit, of McVeytown; Glen Mills Schools, of Concordville; Diversified Treatment Alternatives, of Lewisburg; Lakeview NeuroRehabilitation Services Inc., of Austin, Texas; Clear Vision Residential Treatment Services Inc., of Montgomery; LifeSpan Family Services of PA, of Punxsutawney; David G. Wray, M.Ed., of Lewistown; Ray Ghaner, Esquire, of Huntingdon; Jondu Inc., of Lancaster; and Aaron Gingrich, Esquire, of Lewistown.

Approved applications for 2014 liquid fuels fund allocations for Brown Township in the amount of $6,286.27 and McVeytown Borough in the amount of $1,000.

Rescinded action from July 24 approving Derry Township’s application for liquid fuels allocation in the amount of $17,857.49 due to a project being complete and pending necessary paperwork from the state.

Approved Mifflin County Food Purchase Program agency agreements for the period July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 with the Salvation Army in the amount of $9,283.81; Hand of Grace in the amount of $30,000; The Abuse Network in the amount of $6,000; Bible Baptist/New Life Church in the amount of $7,548.27; Bible Baptist/New Life Church Soup Kitchen in the amount of $400; and Calvary Bible Church in the amount of $11,019.35.

Approved a State Offender Supervision Fund grant-in-aid renewal agreement for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 in the amount of $338,611 for the purpose of adult probation wages.

Approved an Emergency Management Performance Grant agreement with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency for the period Oct. 1, 2013 through Dec. 31, 2014 in the amount of $93,325 for the purpose paying salaries for planning activities.

Approved a request for exoneration of 2014 real estate tax bill for a parcel located in Decatur Township where a mobile home was removed. The county’s portion is $179.55.

Approved a contract with Maximus, of Harrisburg, to prepare the county’s cost allocation plans for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 at a cost of $7,200 for 2014 and $7,500 for 2014 and 2015.

Approved an agreement with Tyler Technologies Inc., of Dallas, Texas, for yearly maintenance support and licensing for the county’s MUNIS accounting software for the period Aug. 2, 2014 through Aug. 1, 2015 at a cost of $16,706.50.

Approved the appointment of Brett Rogers to the Mifflin County Library Board to fill an unexpired term which will expire Dec. 31, 2015.

Approved the promotion of Nikki Kitzmiller from caseworker II to caseworker III in the children & youth department effective Aug. 8.

Rescinded action taken July 10 to hire Nicole Welmon as a caseworker in the children & youth department.

Approved the promotion of Rylan Bargo from caseworker II to caseworker III in the children & youth department.
