Juniata County Youth Fair set for next week

PORT ROYAL The 2014 Juniata County Youth Fair begins Monday, July 28 and runs through Friday, August 1 at the Port Royal Fairgrounds.

The following is the public schedule:

Monday, July 28

9:30 a.m.-Clean up fairgounds (help needed)

2 to 7 p.m.-Enter dairy, beef, sheep, rabbits & goats

5 to 7 p.m.-Enter and weigh-in swine

5:30 to 6:30 p.m.-Market rabbit weigh-in (rabbit barn)

6:30 to 7:30 p.m.-Market poultry weigh-in (rabbit barn)

6:30 to 9 p.m.-Register at Floral Hall or livestock barn for activities

6:30 to 9 p.m.-Enter all Floral Hall projects

7 p.m.-Sheep, dairy market feeder, market steer, goats weigh-in

Tuesday, July 29

9 a.m. to noon-Floral Hall closed for judging

10 a.m.-Poultry show (bring lawn chair)

10 a.m.-Dairy show (milking cows released after show)

1 p.m.-Dairy market feeder show

3 p.m.-Sheep show

5:30 p.m.-Square dance demonstration in Livestock Barn

6 p.m.-Swine Show

Wednesday, July 30

9 to 10 a.m.-Bake-off entry (Floral Hall)

10 a.m.-Goat show

2 p.m.-Floral Hall champions photo

2 p.m.-Seeing Eye Puppy Show (Com. bldg.)

3 p.m.-Rabbit show (rabbit barn)

5 p.m.-Market steer & heifer show

7:45 p.m.-Barnyard games (Livestock Barn)

9 p.m.-Bake-off auction & sale (Livestock Barn)

Following auction-Ice cream sundae

Thursday, July 31

10 a.m.-Supreme showmanship contest

12 noon-Alumni showmanship contest

1 p.m.-Floral Hall make up photos

1:30 p.m.-Scavenger hunt (meet at Floral Hall)

6 p.m.-Livestock sale

7 to 10 p.m.-Animals released (non-market)

Friday, August 1

9 a.m.-Clean up fairgrounds & barns

9 to 11 a.m.-Floral Hall projects released

Organizers note that 4-H clubs and FFA chapters are supporting the local food bank during the fair by conducting a canned food drive.

Also, 4-H and FFA members in Juniata County may enter the layer cake bake-off as part of the fair. Member entries will be accepted for the contest on Wednesday morning. Cake entries will be auctioned off on Wednesday following the barnyard olympics.
