Council recognizes Noble for his service

JUNIATA TERRACE – Special recognition was given to Denny Noble for his service on the Juniata Terrace Borough Council Tuesday evening during the group’s meeting.

Noble recently resigned as president of the council and as a member due to a relocation out of the borough. Juniata Terrace Borough Mayor Rich Lockett presented Noble with a framed proclamation and a clock.

“Thank you Dennis Noble for all of the service and time you have provided to the borough for all of these years,” Lockett said. “You will surely be missed on council.”

Noble had served on council for 37 years before moving out of the borough.

Noble said leaving was a bitter-sweet moment for him.

“The day after I left, the borough had the fire,” Noble said. “It was hard to leave because I knew everyone there, but I also had faith that council could handle it.”

After the presentation, the meeting continued with hearing of persons present. Those present spoke about a sewage back-up problem that has been happening intermittently for the last few years. One even said he believes there is a break in the line because the sewage will back-up in sinks and come through the walls. Council President Bill Conaway said the problem is slated to get fixed soon.

“I assure you it will be fixed,” Conaway said. “The consensus of the council is to do what it takes to permanently fix the lines.”

Conaway said the plan is to fix the problem by using CDBG funding as part of a replacement of 1,900 feet of sewer lining throughout the borough.

In other business:

The council approved an increase to the part time help wages from $7.50 an hour to $8 an hour, which will be effective immediately.

The Juniata Terrace Borough Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Juniata Terrace Borough office.
