Bridge to be replaced

EAST WATERFORD – Work to replace a Juniata County bridge on state Route 3023, Pumping Station Road, will start Monday.

At that time, the bridge will be closed and a detour will be in place. The bridge spans Lick Run on state Route 3023, Pumping Station Road, in Lack Township, about two miles southeast of the village of Cross Keys.

Originally built in 1937, the current bridge is 19 feet long and carries almost 250 vehicles each day. It will be replaced with a new box culvert.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s official detour will direct motorists to use state Route 75, Tuscarora Valley Road and state Route 3025, Berry Ridge Road. Drivers familiar with the area may choose to use alternate routes.

Crews from PennDOT Juniata County Maintenance will perform the replacement work, which is weather and schedule dependent. Work is scheduled to last until mid-August.
