Board votes down proposed projects
MIFFLINTOWN As upgrades to school buildings continue throughout the district, the Juniata County Board of School Directors remains careful about staying within its budget.
Several district improvement projects were considered during a meeting held Thursday evening at Fermanagh-Elementary School, but few of them passed the board’s vote.
Two proposed amendments to the Guaranteed Energy Savings Agreement with Reynolds Construction failed to earn board approval.
“We need to be lax on spending more money,” said Director Ray Page. “Now’s not the time.”
The board chose not to replace the existing home-side stadium bleachers at Juniata High School at this time. The project had an estimated cost $248,400. A recommendation to remove a collapsing retaining wall at the front of Tuscarora Junior High School at a cost of $46,000 also failed.
A recommendation to modify the football field restoration to include a soccer field was pulled from the agenda.
However, the board OK’ed a funding request from the band at East Juniata High School. Ongoing deliberation about the school’s deteriorating uniforms ended Tuesday with board approval of 70 coats, bibbers, hats and boxes, plumes and garment bags from DeMoulin Brothers and Company. The uniforms will cost $30,918.30.
