Update: 1 killed Friday when train, car collided
GRANVILLE – A Lewistown man has died as a result of injuries sustained after his vehicle was hit by a train in Granville Township Friday morning, according to an updated report from the Granville Township Police Department.
According to police, James Charlesworth, 91, of Lewistown, drove his vehicle around the activated crossing gates at the intersection of Anderson Road and into the path of a Norfolk Southern train.
According to the report, emergency crews had to cut Charlesworth out of the vehicle and he was flown to the UPMC-Altoona Trauma Center, where he later died as a result of those injuries.
Police were assisted by Granville, McVeytown and Junction fire companies, Fame EMS, representatives from Norfolk Southern, and Granville Township fire police.
