Seniors nutrition program available
LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, Inc., in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, is offering the Farmers Market Nutrition Program to adults that are 60-years-of-age or older.
Distribution of vouchers will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, and four $5 vouchers will be provided to eligible seniors. The vouchers can be used to purchase fresh, grown in Pennsylvania produce at participating markets.
An adult must turn 60 by Dec. 31 to be eligible. To be eligible, a person’s total income must be less than $21,590 for one person, $29,101 for two people, $36,612 for three people, $44,123 for four people, $51,634 for five people or $59,145 for six people. Income includes interest, Social Security, wages and other sources. Seniors living in nursing, personal care or residential facilities where meals are provided are ineligible.
Each eligible senior may receive vouchers for a total of $20 once during the program year. Vouchers are redeemable through Nov. 30. Adults will be required to show proof of age.
If a person is unable to visit the senior center, another person may register as a proxy for you. A proxy form must be completed before vouchers may be received. A proxy form is available at local senior community centers and the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, Inc., 249 W. Third St., Lewistown.
