Relay For Life exceeds objective
BEAVER SPRINGS – Midd-West Relay For Life volunteers exceeded their goal by nearly $8000, raising $47,810.66 in the 24-hour event held Saturday and Sunday in Beaver Springs.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Midd-West Relay For Life. Over the past decade, the group raised more than half a million dollars for the American Cancer Society.
A 5K/10K race and a fun run/walk were held for the first time this year, with 102 people registering. A basket auction raised $3013 and a signature quilt made of RFL T-shirts was auctioned for $510.
St. Paul’s Wonder Walkers was the top fundraising team with $7937.40, followed by All in the Family, Paxtonville UMC Faith Walkers, Relay 4 Life Pals and Samuel’s soldiers.
Top individual fundraisers included Donna Mattern with $2052.92, followed by Ruth Lizardi, Betty Drumheller, Ange Keiser, Lewis Lizardi and Gene Lizardi.
“I could not be any happier. All of our teams worked so hard throughout the year, and it paid off. Every penny matters and I think it’s great that we worked together and raised almost $48,000 for the American Cancer Society,” Chairwoman Ange Keiser said.
