Police: Woman killed in Thursday accident

BEAVER SPRINGS – An elderly woman from Beaver Springs was killed in a Thursday morning crash on U.S. 522 in Spring Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania State Police Selinsgrove reports.

According to police, Gerladine Hassinger, 89, pulled out of a parking lot along U.S. 522, directly into the path of Luis Rivera, 49, of Orlando, Fla., who was traveling south on U.S. 522 in a 2005 Peterbilt 387. It was reported the tractor trailer’s front bumper then hit the driver’s side door of Hassinger’s 2003 Dodge Caravan.

After initial impact, it was reported Hassinger’s vehicle skidded off the right side of the road coming to a stop on the north side of U.S. 522, while the tractor trailer skidded to a stop in the center of U.S. 522 facing west.

Hassinger was pronounced dead at the scene, the report stated.

Her vehicle was reported to have sustained major damage to the left side.

According to police, Rivera was uninjured and his tractor trailer sustained moderate damage to the bumper and hood.
