Police: Truck hauling coal crashes

LEWISTOWN – An area highway was closed and one man sustained minor injuries after the tractor-trailer he was driving rolled over on U.S. 22/322 near the Jacks Creek Road overpass in Derry Township, according to a report from the Mifflin County Regional Police Department.

According to police, Ray Pinto, 27, of Houtzdale, lost control of his truck, a dump trailer hauling coal, around 1:09 a.m. Thursday in the construction zone. According to the report, the truck hit a concrete barrier and 600 feet of guide rails before overturning and hitting a tree, spilling part of its load of coal.

According to police, the truck sustained severe damage and U.S. 22/322 East was closed while the vehicle was removed. Traffic was rerouted onto Ort Valley Road. Charges against Pinto are pending.
