Donations still needed for fireworks display

LEWISTOWN – The Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations for the fireworks display to be held July 5 in Lewistown, and anyone who donates $5 or more will receive a limited edition “I (heart) fireworks in the Juniata River Valley” pin.

To receive the pin, donors must go to the Historic Courthouse, 1 W. Market St., Lewistown, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. While donations are also accepted by mail, those donors will not receive pins.

“We’re very close to reaching our goal of $7,500 to pay for this year’s fireworks, but we were hoping to raise a bit of seed money to start next year’s campaign with as well,” said Jim Tunall, the organization’s executive director.

Tunall said funds will have to be raised each year for the display since the chamber of commerce’s budget cannot accommodate the expense. Additional fundraising ideas are being considered in order to keep the holiday celebration going.
