MWSD students win art contest
MONTOURSVILLE – Two students from the Midd-West School District were among nine statewide winners in the Pennsylvania Department of Tranportation’s annual aviation art contest this spring.
Britany Smith, a freshman at Midd-West High School, placed second in the senior category. Hayden Klinepeter, second grade student at Midd-West Elementary School, placed third in the junior category.
The students were recognized for creatively demonstrating this year’s contest theme, “flying saves lives.” Jennie Granger, director of PennDOT’s Bureau of Aviation, presented certificates from the state transportation secretary and enlarged copies of the students’ artwork to the students and their schools.
The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts was involved in judging nearly 100 entries this year. All statewide winners’ artwork has been forwarded for judging in a national competition.
