5th Annual Ta-Ta Trot to be held

SUNBURY – The 5th Annual Ta-Ta-Trot 5K Run/Walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. July 12 at David L. Persing Recreational Park, on North Fourth Street in Sunbury.

The event will benefit Evangelical’s Thyra M. Humphreys Center for Breast Health, Geisinger’s Marie Lamey Fund, and Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.

A donation of $25 for teens/adults, and $15 for kids is required for participation.

CARS to be closed on Memorial Day

LEWISTOWN – The Call-A-Ride Service will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Anyone who needs a ride on May 27 must call 242-2277 by noon Friday.

Red Cross urges blood donations

MIFFLINTOWN – The American Red Cross is in need of donations of all blood types. Blood drives will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. on May 21, at Walker Grange, William Penn Highway, Mexico, and from 1 to 7 p.m. on May 22, at Lack Tuscarora EMS, state Route 75, East Waterford.

Donors must have a donor card or driver’s license and two other forms of identification at check-in. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Parental consent is required and other criteria may apply for donors younger than 18. Appointments can be made by calling (800) 733-2767 or visiting

Blood drive to help Beaver Springs girl

BEAVER SPRINGS – A blood drive will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at West Snyder Elementary School at 645 Snyder Ave., Beaver Springs.

The blood drive will benefit 4-year-old Lauren Nesbit, of Beaver Springs, who was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease, an autoimmune disease affecting the blood. Treatment includes intravenous doses of gamma globulin, an infection-fighting agent found in blood.

Lions Den to hold weight loss challenge

McALISTERVILLE – The Lions Den will hold month-long weight loss challenges in June, July and August.

Each challenge will begin on the first Monday of the month and end on the last day of the same month. Cost is $20 and grants participants full access to the facility during the challenge. A fee will apply for missing a scheduled weigh-in or gaining weight. Prizes will be awarded.
