Snickerdoodles, Meltaways are Cookie and Candy Contest winners
MILROY -Snickerdoodles by Patsy Matejka, and Easy Meltaway Candy by Julie Hampton were the winning recipes in the annual Cookie and Candy Contest held Tuesday at the Fountain Square Senior Center in Milroy.
In the Cookie category, second place went to Debbie Shoemaker for her Raisin Puffs, and third place went to Linda Barr’s Mint Brownies.
In the Candy category, second place went to Bob Dillon for his Peanut Butter Fudge, and third place went to Mary Ann Fultz for Peanut Butter Fudge.
Two recipes shared by entrants follow.
Easy Meltaway Candy
8 ounces white chocolate wafers
8 ounces milk chocolate wafers
8 ounces peanut butter
Stir white and milk chocolate pieces together in microwave-safe bowl. Heat slowly until melted, stirring frequently.
Add peanut butter, again, heating slowly until melted and thoroughly mixed, stirring frequently.
Pour into 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch pan.
2 cups raisins
1 cup water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
Put raisins and water in pan. Let simmer until all water is absorbed.
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs, vanilla, salt and soda. Then add flour. Add raisins last, after they cool a little.
Form balls of dough the size of walnuts, roll in sugar and bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
Makes 4 dozen.
