Mifflin County 4-H looking for members

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County 4-H Program is open to all youth age 8-18! The sign up deadline for enrolling in clubs and projects is March 31. Mifflin County 4-H has 23 community, livestock and shooting sports clubs with many project opportunities.

4-H is people sharing, doing and learning together in all kinds of projects, events and activities. Members choose projects that fit their interests, and in some cases choose a club that is close to where the member lives. Group activities and events like field trips, day camps, achievement programs, citizenship program and fair provide additional opportunities and learning experiences.

4-H is open to all youth ages 8-18 and adult volunteers regardless of race, sex, national origin, creed or disability. 4-H clubs have a business meeting for the entire membership once a month. They make decisions about projects to complete, community service efforts, fundraising activities, election of officers and youth demonstrations. Then, project meetings involve the adults and youth who want to work on a specific topic coming together to accomplish the project and to complete a record book. The Mifflin County Youth Fair is scheduled for August 3-9 and is the culmination of the 4-H experience.

All youth, ages 8 – 18 are invited to join any one of the clubs.

Livestock Clubs Include: Market and Dairy Goat, Market and Breeding Lamb, Swine, Beef, Dairy Feeder, Rabbit, Poultry, and Horse and Pony.

4-H Community Clubs: Big Valley, Decatur, Ellen Chapel, Vira, Wayne, and McVeytown.

Join a community club to learn a hobby, make a craft or a project. Some projects include: ceramics, cooking, cake decorating, models, string art, gardening, scrapbooking, leather, tie-dye, rocketry, woodworking, and many more!

4-H Shooting Sports: Archery, Air Rifle, .22 Rifle, Shotgun, and Muzzleloader.

Special Interest Clubs: Dog Club, Robotics Club, Jr. Leaders and Craft club.
