Brown Township gets new tax collector

REEDSVILLE – The Brown Township Board of Supervisors has appointed a new tax collector for the township, according to township secretary Teresa King.

King said on Monday the elected Tax Collector, Teresa Reed, resigned from her position. Reed was re-elected to the position in the November 2013 election. During a meeting Monday evening, the board accepted her resignation contingent upon receiving a formal written letter. King said the letter was received on Tuesday, and the board appointed Cheryl Hartzler as the new tax collector. A special election was not held because the position is meant to be a four year position and governing bodies can appoint a tax collector in off election years, with the understanding if she wants to continue with this position she will have to run. King said Hartzler has been appointed until Jan. 4, 2016.

King said due to this employee change, tax bills are going to be late for the township, but she did say they will be mailed by April. King also said the discount tax period will remain the same length as it normally is, and residents should take note as to what the exact dates are in the mailing.
