Police: Juniata County man assaulted state trooper
McALISTERVILLE – A 37-year-old man from McAlisterville assaulted a police officer Tuesday at an apartment complex located at 138 Westfall St., Fayette Township, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown.
Police said Francis E. Swartzel was found to be intoxicated, yelling loudly, using profane language and causing a disturbance at the residence. According to the report, Swartzel was arrested for disorderly conduct. Police say he assaulted a trooper by spitting blood on him and kicking him several times prior to and during transport to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility. Police said the trooper sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital, and was later released.
According to the report, Swartzel was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Police said charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge Barbara M. Lyter’s office. Swartzel was remanded to the custody of the MCCF in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to the report.
