Penelec: Burned wire caused loss of power

YEAGERTOWN – Around 4 p.m. Friday many residents in Yeagertown lost power.

According to Penelec Area Manager Beverly McGreen, about 5,500 customers suffered complete power outages and countless more experienced either flickering lights or occasional power outages. McGreen said the cause of the outage came from a burned wire in the Yeagertown area.

Once the outage was reported, Penelec focused on getting the wire back up and working, to restore power to those who had lost it. McGreen said once that was accomplished the company was able to determine what caused the burned wire. Many customers had power restored by 5:30 p.m., McGreen said. All customers had power restored by 7 p.m.

As of press time Friday, the cause of the burned wire was still unknown.
